The origin of perfume

The word “perfume” comes from the Latin “per fumum” and means: through smoke. The art of making perfume began in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt and was further refined in Rome and Persia. The first written record of a perfume maker is on a four-thousand-year-old Mesopotamian stone tablet, the immortalized chemist was a woman, Tapputi, who distilled flowers, oil, stalks, and then filtered and stored the aromas thus obtained.
